Black, White and Grey All Over: Day 18

Right now, I'm all about the color grey. And nothing goes better with it than a little black and a little white.

I'm just really into the neutrals this winter and my coral lipstick is as bright as I'm getting these days.

Dance Show Outfit: Day 16

It was the winter show for the dance program I work for this past Saturday. My challenge when getting dress for dance performances is looking like a teacher. So often because I'm short and have a baby face, many people assume I'm a student. That's always an awkward moment when I have to explained that I'm actually an adult. But that's part of fun of being short, right? Ok, maybe not.

Most of the time when I try to look more grown up, I wear heels but that doesn't really work when running around back stage with a bunch of kids. So I went with all black cause nothing says I belong in a theater more than that.

It's A Busy Saturday: Day 14

It's been a busy day between the winter dance show and the babysitting I'm doing later tonight. I'm having my full of kids today which is super fun. It's so cute watching all the little kids getting excited about performing for the first time. The day is filled with lots of running around for the teachers but it makes for a really fun day for the families. Even though I'm busy, I got to keep up with my blogmas goal so I'm sharing my favorite photo from my instagram this week!

This is Vera, my sister cat who lets you do just about anything to her including making her wear a necklace.

DIY Holly Crowns: Day 13

I know most people don't need holly leaves crowns but as a dance teacher who needs to come up with new costume ideas on the cheap, I find myself making some funny things . Last spring it was fairy wings for one class and horns for another. And for this year's winter show, it's holly crowns for my beginner class!

I cut off some branches from the holly plant in my backyard and placed them in some water with soap. A tip my grandma told me to help keep the plant from drying out too quickly.

I made a base from three pieces of wire that I braided together. Then I cut off smaller pieces of holly and attached the whole thing together using floral tape. (I also cut off all the pointy ends, which is very time consuming but as these are going to be on children's heads, I didn't want anyone to get hurt. And no matter how many times you tell them not to touch their heads, god knows someone will.)

I decided to only put leaves towards the front: 1. to make it easier on me. 2. to make them easy to bobby pin them in their hair. 3. I didn't want to over do it. I was going for cute not crazy! I finished the back half of the crown with some green ribbon.

And here are my finished product! Hopefully the kids will like them!

I think this idea would also work great on a smaller scale to make festive napkin rings for a holiday dinner!

Rain, Rain, Rain: Day 12

Trying to take photos is the rain is always a struggle but add in a trash collector dressed as Santa going by plus this crazy loud bird squawking at a squirrel, neighbors on their roof hanging Christmas lights and at point, I thought the mailman had shown put too. Let me tell you it was a stressful 10 minutes.

This look is another version of my "winter uniform". The highlight of this outfit are my new hunter rain booties! I went shopping with my sister and while she was looking at dresses, I ended up in the shoe section. I found these little babies which is perfect because my current rain boots I thrifted last winter have a rip in them. So I gave myself at little early Christmas present.

Work Clothes: Day 11

This is what I would wear if I worked in a real office. Heels and dresses are just not appropriate for dance classes or PT clinics. That's what I get for not sitting at a desk all day. I'll just have to save these looks for the weekends, I guess.

I would also like to mention that this is the cheapest outfit I have ever worn. The dress and necklace were given to me after my aunt cleaned out her closet. The tights and shoes are from my sister. My ring is old costume jewelry piece which belong to my great aunt. So the only thing I actually paid for was my belt which I got at a thrift store for around $2.

I don't think you can get more thrifty than that!

Pin-spiration: Day 10

I adore vintage pins! They are always so beautiful and I love collecting them. But I never seem to wear them that much as I think I will. Isn't that always the case? Sure, I can add a pin to jacket or sweater but I couldn't help thinking that there has to be other fun ways to wear pins.

1.Add some bling
A simple thrifted pin in the center of this ivory bow makes this clutch just a bit more fancy.

2. Join a chain gang
By adding a pin to a simple chain changes it into an awesome statement necklace. The more of the chain you can get through the pin, the better it will stay in place!

3. Put a ring on it

By sticking the pin through a loop ring (used for beading jewelry), you can make a cool cocktail ring. This works best with a small pin. Sticking the pin in on a diagonal so that one loop from each side is through the pin makes it more secure. If you want a more permanent fix add some jewelry wire to keep it in place.

4. Start a band

Add the pin to a piece of ribbon to make a fun headband or a simple belt or even a cute wrap bracelet.

It's Cold Outside: Day 9

Even though Seattle has been lucky enough to avoid all the snow everyone else is having (for now at least). But it's still really cold and my sweater with jeans "uniform" is full swing.

Also check out my hair; it has this crazy static thing going on today. I don't know if it was how I did my hair or the sweater but it was clinging to my face. Which if that has never happened to you before, trust me it's really creepy feeling.

Other than my weird hair day, I love this sequin and beaded sweater I got at last year's Glitter Sale. It's super warm but still has a touch of fun!

The dark side of DIY: Day 7

I had this great idea to make a pin cushion on the lid of a jar instead I ruined a jar. I now have a glue and fabric covered lid that doesn't fit on the jar. So after an hour of trying to make it work, I gave up and searched pinterest for other people's failed projects. Nothing makes you feel better than knowing other people struggle to use a glue gun too.

 Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

My Winter To-do List: Day 6

Earlier in September, I made a fall to-do list of everything fun I wanted to do. And I happy to say that I did all my items but one. I'm back again to write my winter list of all the fun things I can think of right now that I want to do.

1. Ice Skating

ice skating

I love ice skating but none of my friends ever seem to want to go but I think I may have to make a few go with me this year.

2. Bake Lots of Cookies

Vintage Christmas ad General Mills 1948 Just a Housewife baking cookies

There's just something about this time of year and my need to bake as much sweets as possible.

3. Disneyland

lol cute photo! and yes we will be hitting up Disneyland and all that stuff when we go to Cali.

My sister and I are taking a little trip to Disneyland in the new year. It's pretty much all we talk about these days and I can't wait to go!

4. Try Zumba

ZUMBA TIME!!!!!!!!

I keep thinking about trying it. I really need to just go to a class and stop thinking about it!

My Pretty, Pretty Coat: Day 5

I'm kind of obsessed with my coat. I mean the color is amazing! Plus it's vintage and belonged to my great aunt. It's one the pieces she picked up during her travels and I adore it so much.

I love mixing the old coat with my new beanie (which was a whole $5 at H&M). The hat gives the look a modern vibe and makes the coat more everyday wearable.

Winter Maxi Dress: Day 4

Some days are a choice between getting dress or doing your hair. I chose clothes today. After working out earlier, I get couldn't be bother with fixing my hair. It's the middle of the week, so the fact that I actually got outside to take photos is a win in my book.

It's been crazy cold for Seattle. With freezing temps and talk of snow, layers are a must. A maxi dress is such a summer piece in my mind that I don't normally grab it in the colder months but the thought of wearing jeans today was not working for me. I put leggings on under the dress for extra warmth and it worked perfectly.

Christmas Decor: Day 3

With almost all of my Christmas shopping done, Thank you Amazon. My attention has turned to decorating for the holidays. I really feeling greens this year and I can't get enough of holly leaves, mistletoe or fresh cut Christmas trees. I love how simply greens add to the space and makes everything feel a bit more festive.
