Hot Mess Dress #2

So I'm full of good intentions like when it comes to thrifting. I have this idea that I can take a dress that is not so hot and make it nice again like with this dress. You can read about my first attempt in this here.

I got the dress during this trip to the Goodwill Outlet store. The dress was a dollar and looked like this:

It is also made out of the worst fabric ever. It caught on everything and was really overly stretchy. But I was going to a Bachelorette party and this dress is what I planned to wear so I was determined to make it work! (That was an unintentional Tim Gunn quote). I ended up fixing it by hand cause I'm beginner sewing machine sewer and I had problems after trying to get the machine together with the dress. I shorten the sleeves, hemmed the skirt and used the extra fabric as a belt giving myself a waist.

P.S: This is not how I styled the dress for Bachelorette party. These photos are my it's raining and the middle week so let's wear a dress look.

An Estate Sale filled with Salad bowls, Suitcases and Siri Haters

I may or may not have gotten dress until the afternoon. I may or may not have spent my morning watching season 3 of Community

Pants: Gap, Top: Target, Shoes: Payless, Scarf: Gifted, Ring: H&M

If fact, the only productive thing I did this morning was roast beets in the oven and add them to pasta for lunch. It was very pink and tasty.  If you have never roasted beets before they are awesome! I always thought beets were an old person thing, like something a stereotypical adult tells you is good but they were right, where ever they are.

And onto what I was really going to write about,  My Saturday estate sale shopping. My sister and I got some great things. We found this wooden salad bowl (which is also the perfect size for a cat!).

And I picked up this leather hole punch (I was overly excited about) for $0.50. A handy tool to have but not something I wanted/ needed enough to paid full price.

This suitcase was in great condition but really hard to open so lucky for us it was priced low and overlooked by lots of people.

Estate sales are also fun for the people you meet, my sister bonded with some lady over their dislike of Siri and Zooey Deschanel. Followed by one of those awkward moments where you are trying to leave but the person just keeps talking so you pretend to keep shopping until the moment passes.
I love successful shopping trips! -S

Today exists so I could wear this sweater

Some days are comfy sweater days, like today. I got this sweater on a trip I took to Ireland with my mother when I was 18 years old. It's so warm and I love it.

I also think it would make a great movie theater sweater cause the AC seems to always be on in those places. I didn't go to a theater but I did watch a movie in this outfit. The movie Jeff who lives at home, in case you were wondering, I thought it was funny and my friends thought it was weird.

In other news and I know I'm totally late to this party but The Blonde Squad now has Instagram. I'm having so much fun posting and looking at everyone's photos. I can't believe I waited this long to sign up!

Plaid Pants and a Sales Rack

Or how I ended up with this outfit. I made a quick trip to Target yesterday and there was a major sale on clothes going on and I picked up this lovely little sweater for $7 which is awesome.

So in honor of my new sweater I pulled out my plaid polyester that swish when you walk pants. These pants are 1/3 of my pants suit gifted to me by one of my grandmothers. You can see how I wore the skirt portion here.

These pants feel like really fancy pajamas which I have not decide is a good or bad thing yet. But all in all, there a good pair of pants to have if I ever start playing golf or find myself selling used cars in 1975.

 Have a wonderful weekend!

Lessons From My Grandma

When I was a kid, most of my fashion tips came from my grandma. She is the kind of woman that doesn't like leaving the house without earrings and lipstick on. She is also the person that told me never wear black with navy.

As you can see, I'm breaking that black/navy rule. I did remember my lipstick so I should get points for that, right? I don't know what she would think of me wearing ripped jeans and a cropped fur coat together either but I like it so who cares!

I thrifted this coat at the Goodwill glitter sale in November. The glitter sale is this great event that showcases all of the best items Goodwill stores get throughout and sells them in one huge sale. A fur coat was my must get item from the sale this year. I have found that working the coat into my everyday life is a little hard at times but it's fun so why not wear it on a random day!

Sweaters and Weather

Hello All,
I'm getting back into the swing of things around here and posting again! Yay!

So what's been going in my life? Well, I got a haircut and I'm still in love with this sweater. I posted about in here in September and have been wearing it pretty much nonstop since.

It's been cold in Seattle as of late, there is still frost on the ground in the afternoon and no rain. Weird winter weather = layers = more chances for me to wear this sweater. There's some good logic for you.
