Heels and a Sweatshirt

Today's post is a continuation of yesterday's DIY, showing you how I styled my sweatshirt. Today also marks the first day, I didn't get bored half way through my fishtail braid and give up.

Okay, that's a lie. I did get bored and give up the first time. But I successfully made it through my second attempt which has never happened before so I'm calling today a win.

There is something truly wonderful about being able to wear heels and a sweatshirt. It feels chic and pulled together without being over the top.

DIY Embellished Sweatshirt

Embellished sweatshirts is such a fun fall trend! But as I am cheap, I couldn't justify spending $20 on another sweatshirt even if it has rhinestones on it. So I headed to the thrift store, found a simple sweatshirt for $5 and got to work DIYing.

1. Pick a sweatshirt (either old one from the back of your closet or thrift store)

2. Get stuff to embellish with. There are lot of great options at the craft store from lace to sequins to studs. I went with sequin fabric pieces in 4 different sizes. You will also need scissors and either a needle and thread or fabric glue (for the non sewers, plus it's the faster option!).

3. Decide on placement and cut fabric to correct length. I wanted my detail on the shoulders so I measured from the collar seam to the sleeve seam (plus a little extra just in case).

4. Sew or glue fabric into place. Cut off any extra fabric so you have a clean line at the sleeve.

5. Wear and enjoy!

Sweater Weather

I live for sweater weather! I'm one of those weird people that spends all summer dreaming about Fall. For as long as I can remember, Fall has always been my favorite season. It's just the best time of year! I can't get enough of the changing leaves, the crisp air and the pumpkins.

I'm starting to make my list of things I want to do this fall like visit a pumpkin patch, carve pumpkins, drink cider and watch Hocus Pocus for the millionth time.

Not to mention go to the Goodwill Glitter Sale, roast pumpkin seeds, and see Catching Fire in the theater.

My Canadian Adventure- Day 3

Day 3 started my favorite way with a shopping trip. With the help of yelp, I found a few local vintage shops and spent most of my day, searching though racks and falling in love with everything. Sadly, I only came away this a pair of vintage sunnies. But I did decide if I ever win the lottery, I'm going to spend all my money on this street.

Lili Ming from China. Her clothes were amazing hand knit pieces and each one was more beautiful than the next. It was definitely one of my top favorite shows!

Papillon, Vancouver and LA based Designer

Nikki Babie from Victoria

It's a little hard to tell but that is a real dog she holding. It was super cute! He was so calm, just looking around at everyone in the crowd.

Kristina Banden, designer from Vancouver

I really wish i had gotten a good shot to the back of the wedding dress. It had beautiful beading in the back.

All in all, it was great fun to watch the shows and see the fashion world up close. I would like to thank everyone behind Vancouver Fashion Week allowing me the opportunity to be "media" for a few days. I had a blast!

My Canadian Adventure- Day 2

Wednesday's show started off with fashion students. LaSalle College was a partner with Vancouver Fashion Week and four of their recent graduates got the chance to show off their designs.

 Jesper Annerstedt

Carolina Rojas

Sonya Jang

Jenna Cotton

Behene from Vancouver who designs Indo-Western Womenwear

I love the blue and it looked amazing on this model!

Vivid Haiku

This collection was soft, ladylike and beautiful. As well as one of my favorites of my whole trip.

Angela Huang from Vancouver designs Womenwear. Her all white collection was a wonderfully cohesive show and her attention to detail was amazing.

Firan&Rose, UK Womenwear Desinger

L'enfant Terrible, Womenwear from USA (I think CA?)

The Unified Theory from Canada was one of my other favorites. I loved the production of the show. Not only were her clothes lovely with sorta prairie vibe but her first model walked out carrying a shotgun which was pretty badass. The music was awesome and the pioneers backdrop photo was perfect.

I'll be back on Monday with a recap of day 3!

My Canadian Adventure- Day 1

Yesterday was my first trip to Canada since I was nineteen. Because Canada and Washington state share a border, I grew up going on frequent trips to Vancouver and Victoria (mostly for dance competition). This was also my first time driving around Vancouver solo plus the first fashion show I've been to.

The show took place at the Chinese Cultural Center which is located next to the beautiful gardens pictured above. I don't know about you but my knowledge of fashion shows comes from watching Zoolander and The Rachel Zoe Project. For most part, it's what I expected but I also learned a few things too like...

1. It really hard to take a phone pic of one person that's walking in a sea of other faces that aren't moving.
2. There are lots of breaks. And all that waiting turns me into a creeper that spent more time than I would like to admit people watching (by that I mean taking stalker photos of them with my iphone.)
3. Fashion is awesome! (I mean I knew this already but it's great to be around other people that love it.)  Plus it's so cool seeing all the different individual style.

This blue dress is by the Designer Christina Exie (who was the Australian Project Runway winner in 2012.)

The four photos below are by Designer Regina Jessen who is from Denmark.

There were a lot of other amazing designers and I wish I would have gotten lots more photos but my phone was too low on battery. I'm going to be more prepared tonight!

I like big bows and I can not lie

A quick Hello on this Friday afternoon! Life has been busy, the weather been hot and my lack of patience that it's not fall yet has lead to no photos.  But today, the temperature dropped and I needed to wear warmer clothes, yay!

This sweatshirt was a little DIY from a year ago which I love but my sister hates. She thinks the big bow is weird. I, on the other hand, think it's awesome!

Also wanted to mention that the blonde squad is going to Canada next week for the Vancouver Fashion Week. I'm really excited to go and there will be some fun post up sometime next week!
